Persian Rose:

I've traveled far, I've traveled wide.

I've sifted through the earth, I've searched the sky,

Seeking the fairest Flower that grows.

The Persian Rose.

The hour is late; the world's asleep.

In darkness I seek the Rose and my heart weeps.

But still that fragrance draws me to the bower.

The Persian Flower.

Tell me, have you seen it?

Tell me, have you touched it?

Tell me in what garden does it grow?

I tell you, I must have it. I must make it mine.

You think me a madwoman sifting through the sands;

Oh, no, these are rose petals in my hands.

Tell me, have you seen it?

Tell, me have you touched it?

Tell me in what garden does it grow?

I tell you, I must find it. I must reach my goal.

God, is there no mercy?

Now my restless journey brings me to a wall.

I scale the fearful height; I slip and fall.

But when I open up my eyes

A Garden surrounds me--Paradise.

And here at the end of my troubled path, it grows.

The Persian Rose.

I've traveled far; I've traveled wide.

I've sifted through the earth; I've searched the sky.

To lose the world and gain a soul,

Tumble to my knees, rise to the Goal.

The madman and the lover surely know

They must fall who would embrace the Rose.
