O Spirit of Mankind!

When all is said and done, I still believe
Christ will endure
An ultimate symbol of the human condition.
He dreamed, he lived, he sacrificed
He was crucified and died.
By the power of his vision and his imagination he rose again.
But like us all, he bore (and must bear) the weight of unintended consequences.
Were he to set foot today in St. Peter's Cathedral
What would he think?
Of gigantic statues, gargantuan spaces, and untold riches and wealth?
Of pomp and circumstance, of Popes and cardinals?
