MY RESUME
NOTE: This resume is no longer up-to-date. For a recent version, please see
here.
Background and personal data
Name: Hans Nowak
Date of birth: February 9, 1973
Nationality: Dutch
Current location: Alachua, FL
Contact: hans@zephyrfalcon.org
I've been working as a software developer since 1998. My specialties include Delphi and Python.
Born and raised in the Netherlands, I moved to the United States in November
2001, to live with my wife and children. Last summer I acquired my work
permit, and recently I was granted permanent residence. In other words,
I am allowed to work for any US employer.
Currently I am working for a software development company in Missouri,
telecommuting. Almost all of my work here is done in
Python. Because this is not (always) a
full-time job, I have time for
other projects.
Work experience
May 2001 - October 2001: CSS Software Development (Heerlen, The Netherlands)
Info Vision (see below) was taken over by CSS, where I had essentially the same function. Besides maintaining my existing projects, I worked on an implementation of the Onyx platform, for a large real estate company.
September 1998 - May 2001: Info Vision Europe BV (Hoensbroek, The Netherlands)
Evolving from "regular" programmer to senior software programmer, I worked on several
large projects, including:
- a management system for safety tools for a large chemical company; this included
building interfaces to specialized hardware, like card printers, barcode scanners, and
hand-held terminals
- a sophisticated system for the registration and management of credit limits; this
included a "decision support" form that helped users when issueing new credit limits;
also included an interface to a large online documenting system, a flexible report generator, and an Intranet interface
- a system for the registration of accidents (!), again for a large chemical company
- a system for specialized allocation of costs
All of these programs were written in Delphi, using various databases (MS SQL
Server, Oracle, MS Access...)
Before this, I had a few jobs that were unrelated to software development, working
for companies dealing with insurances, pensions and unemployment compensation.
1993 - 1995: HVB Computerservices (Barneveld, The Netherlands)
I have not been an employee of this company; rather, I sold them around 60 (DOS-based) programs on a free-lance basis. Most of these programs were written in Turbo Pascal
and Turbo Basic. The idea was that they should run on every PC, even very old ones
with no sound and a Hercules or CGA card.
Expertise
- Programming languages: Delphi (4 yrs professional experience),
VBScript (1 yr professional experience), Python (over 6 yrs experience), C, C++,
Pascal (12 yrs experience)
- Databases: MS SQL Server (7 and 2000), MS Access, Paradox, Oracle, MySQL
- Other: MS Word, Excel, Borland MIDAS, ADO, COM, ASP, SQLXML, CVS
Education
2000: MCSE, through Info Vision. (I haven't renewed this, though.)
1991 - 1997: HEAO BE (Bedrijfseconomie/Business Economics)
BA in Business Economics, at the HEAO in Sittard (Netherlands).
1985 - 1991: Gymnasium A
Graduated in the following classes: Dutch, English, Maths A, Economics 1, Economics 2,
Greek, Latin.
