Using my own personal preferences, the mobile operating systems ranked as follows (YMMV):

1. Android
2. iPhone
3. HP Palm WebOS
4. Nokia's Symbian
5. RIM's Blackberry
6. Windows

A little more information on the criteria:

1. Market Share is the percentage of smartphone users that currently use a particular operating system. This may or may not be important to you.

2. Usability is a measure of the relative ease of use, number of useful features, and technical maturity or excellence of the product.

3. Applications is the number and quality of applications available for the platform.

4. Network flexibility is the number of different wireless carriers available.

5. Python refers to whether or not the Python programming language is available and how easy to install and powerful it is.

6. Open Platform refers to the openness of the software platform, is it open source and is ti easy to program in the language of your choice.

7. Snappiness and Speed refers to the responsiveness and execution speed of the operating system (on equivalent hardware).

8. Style refers to the aesthetic beauty of the user interface.
